Background and purpose of the position

 

The project “E4 Enhancing Employment Opportunities in Jordan Energy and Environment Sector”, funded by the European Union, seeks to design and build a recycling and compost pilot plant in the Greater Irbid Municipality, Jordan. The project will ensure new employment created and unskilled worker trained. Moreover, the water network in Irbid and Mafraq governorate will be rehabilitated. A third pillar, Jordanian students and new graduates will be trained and public awareness will be enhanced on waste management (WM), renewable energy (RE) energy and water efficiency (EE/WE). The project started its second year in February 2017 and will last till January 2019.

 

 

 

According with the situation and advancement of the project, we will need some help during the summer stage period in the:

 

–          support on preparation of tender and tendering procedure for the waste treatment facility

 

–          analysis of the market for recycled products, plastic granulate, paper thermal insulation…

 

–          supervision of works for the water network rehabilitation

 

–          support in the selection of beneficiaries based on vulnerability

 

–          support on definition of the awareness campaign

 

–          administrative support

 

 A special focus will be given to the market analysis for compost (organic fertilizer).

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications, skills & competencies required

 

Successful candidates will be willing to work in the field, sometimes in an autonomous and independent way; be prepared for information uncertainty, lack of a baseline, struggles in data collection, unstructured working environment; be proactive: there is no right or wrong way, there is only the way we decide to follow together.

 

Previous experience in the energy/compost/waste management and/or in developing countries could help but is not required.

 

Language requirements: fluency in English. Knowledge of local language (Arabic) and/or Italian will be an asset but it’s not mandatory.

 

 

 

Salary/Payment/Insurance/VISA

 

ICU will cover for international flight tickets, travel and medical insurance, local transportation; ICU will also cover basic expenses for lodging and meals. ICU Jordan office is located in Amman.

 

The candidate is responsible for obtaining a VISA if required; ICU will make its best to facilitate this task.
