BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY OF APPLIED TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS

 

Introduction

ICU is currently implementing 5 cooperation projects involving renewable energies. Three of them involve the construction or the rehabilitation of power plants. (1) In Burundi ICU tackles the problem of rural electrification rehabilitating two mini and two micro hydro plants, adding an hybrid photovoltaic system, and increasing the connections of people working in rural areas. (2) In Tunisia ICU helps a touristic town’s Municipality to improve the reliability of civil services such as public lighting, water sanitation, power supply, through the construction of two PV plants. (3) In Jordan ICU contributes to the diffusion of know-how and to the implementation of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) measures among private and public building sector actors and population through 5 highly-replicable pilot installations.

 

Objective of the project

Given the technicality of such solutions, the goal of this project is to understand the business sustainability of the proposed solutions; with business sustainability ICU primarily refers to economic and financial sustainability (viability, market research, benefits from policy and regulations, scalability and repeatability of the solution, pricing, PPP, etc.). The research may also include an analysis of the social and environmental impacts, as well as an exit strategy. The research will be performed preferably on-site on a regular base or with missions.
