The tour operator Addiopizzo Travel emerged as a branch of Addiopizzo, the first antimafia association dealing with protection money in Sicily. In 12 years it helped lots of enterpreneurs in denouncing the mafia and supported them in an innovative strategy: ethical consumerism against the pizzo. People’s selective purchases support businesses which do not give in to the extortionate demands of the Mafia and openly side against them.
Addiopizzo Travel is an extension of the ethical consumer strategy against the pizzo it specifically targets the tourism sector.
For its tours, Addiopizzo Travel only uses businesses that do not pay pizzo. They are owners of hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, farms and transport agencies who have made the brave decision to rebel against the Mafia.
Addiopizzo Travel wants to show its guests the real face of Sicily, above and beyond stereotypes and tourist traps, giving an opportunity to understand, first hand, the most important moments, people and places of the Anti-Mafia movement.
An example of an “anti-mafia tour”: Palermo No Mafia
Accompanied by an Addiopizzo guide, you will learn about the Mafia and the civil Anti-Mafia movement whilst walking through the picturesque historic centre. Discover a city that is finally rebelling against the pizzo.
Every stop is a cause for reflection, a chance to mull over the realities of the Mafia and consider the civic movement against Mafioso power.
You will meet shopkeepers who have said NO to the pizzo, who follow the ethical consumer campaign “Pago chi non paga” (I shop where they don’t pay pizzo).

Purpose of the position
Addiopizzo Travel want to develop it’s activity in the U.S., as we have some evidence that our tour would be interesting both for US Universities and for individual travellers.
We want to improve our comunication activities specificly in the US market, as well as press contacts to share our mission and products.
Skills and competence
Fluency in English is a requirement. Good Italian comprehension is appreciated as well. Previous experience in the non-profit sector is not required but it could be an asset. Experience in tourism sector is important.
